Free HD Converter is a video converter for Windows computers. This application was formerly known as Koyote AVCHD Converter and it was designed to convert videos recorded by high-definition camcorders, which use the MTS, M2TS, and MPEG formats for video encoding.
The application has a very simple graphical interface. It consists of little space for files on the conversion queue. Below that and to the right there are conversion settings. The preset drop-down list includes the supported output formats: 3GP, AVI, DVD, FLV, iPhone, iPod, MPEG2 HD, and WMV HD. For each preset, you can change the encoding format, the resolution, the frames per second, and the video and audio bit rates.
In my testing, I used an M2TS file, which I converted into the iPhone conversion profile. The file was converted in less than thirty seconds, which was on par with other converters out there. The file played well on VLC and it should play fine on any other player.
All in all, this converter works well and it is free. I have seen similar apps with price tags of over $40. It has good format support as well.
